Report Bugs

(2014-10-21) As you can read I no longer maintain this add-on. But the guys from Ericsson have taken over maintanance. You can get report bugs using their github page: https://github.com/Ericsson/exchangecalendar/releases.

I will keep my pages online for the archive.

!!! The next information is old and outdated !!!

On reporting a bug please specify as detailed as possible the problem seen and how it can be reproduced. Also always use the latest development version.

You can also turn on debug logging. Do this in the following way:

  • In the main menu of Thunderbird click on “Edit”.
  • Select menu option “Preferences”.
  • Select section “Exchange (EWS)”.

Thunderbird Preferences_ExchangeEWS_log

If you wish to change the preferences manually do:

  • In the main menu of Thunderbird click on “Edit”.
  • Select menu option “Preferences”.
  • Goto preferences section “Advanced” and click tabpanel “General”.
  • Click on the button “Config editor”.
  • Aknowledge that you really wish to change some settings.
  • In the “Filter” editbox type “extensions.1st-setup.”.
  • Set any of the following preferences:

extensions.1st-setup.debug.log = true | false   (Turn on or off debug global logging for the extension. When true no logging is done at all.)

extensions.1st-setup.debug.file = /tmp/exchangecalendar.log (When set it will recreate the file on startup of Thunderbird and put log lines in it. Only when “extensions.1st-setup.debug.log” is true)

extensions.1st-setup.core.debuglevel = 0 | 1 | 2 (determines the amount of core processing logging. 0 = none, 1 = only function calling and single line infomation and 2 = show extra info (this produces a lot of info and a big file))

extensions.1st-setup.network.debug = true | false (turn on or off network communications logging)

extensions.1st-setup.network.debuglevel = 1 | 2 (determines the amount of network communications logging. 1 = only meta data info and 2 = show content of send and received messages (this produces a lot of info and a big file))

extensions.1st-setup.authentication.debug = true | false (turn on or off authentication logging)

extensions.1st-setup.authentication.showpassword = true | false (Show password in clear text in log file or not)

extensions.1st-setup.contacts.debug = true | false (turn on or off logging about contacts information)

extensions.1st-setup.exchangecalendar.abcard.debuglevel = 1 | 2 (determines the amount of contacts/addressbookcard processing logging. 1 = only function calling and single line infomation and 2 = show extra info (this produces a lot of info and a big file))

extensions.1st-setup.exchangecalendar.loadbalancer.debuglevel = 0 | 1 | 2 (determines the amount of loadbalancer processing logging. 0 = none, 1 = only function calling and single line infomation and 2 = show extra info (this produces a lot of info and a big file))

  • Reproduce the error and add a copy of the debug file to the bug report.
  • Or Start Thunderbird from a console and command line and copy the debug log lines to a text file.

PLEASE first read the FAQ page and the Different Windows Authentication page before submitting a bug report.

Cannot get tasks to work with version 1.8.19

Have installed this great addon on 3 computers – 2 at home using the 1.8.5 version, and both of these work fine. Same settings on work computer with 1.8.19 results in prolonged checking and no tasks appear.

    Am sending log file

there is a problem with the choice selector for EWS. list of choice is unattainable with version 2.2.0 & lightning 1.5.2.
More there is a Null calender appearing.
    All work fine with 1.8.6

  5. the_chi says:

one more thing : when I use manual process for calendars, function browse ask me forever for my password. I have only access to one calendar.

  6. The current version here is very old: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-us/thunderbird/addon/exchange-20072010-calendar-/

Can you update that to reflect the true newest version?

  7. Frank says:

    Hi,

    i have Thunderbird 14 , Lightning 1.6.1 and Exchange Calendar 2.2.0.
When i try to add a calendar the Tab “Exchange/Windows AD Settings” (the one after giving the calaendar a name) is simply empty.

Do you have an idea ?

    Regards
    Frank

  8. Georg says:

Thank you for providing this add-on, it’s very helpful.
Everything seems to work fine except creating a new calendar item. If I try to do this then the calendar appears to be read-only for a few second (lock symbol appears), the lock symbol then disappears again and nothing happens. No new calendar item and no message is shown. I am wondering if creating new items can be disabled in the EWS interface of the exchange server? This is a corporate exchange server.

  10. Quint says:

    Something must be going wrong/I don’t understand…

Had to change exchange password. EWS kept asking for pw/new items were not published. Went to 1st-setup.nl to install new version. No solution. Went back to 3.1.3. Removed Calendar. Tried to add calendar again. Stalls at autodiscovery. Which used to work fine before. Thunderbird keeps showing “Create a new calendar” window and freezes. Bug report below. Substituted personal info for arbitrary. Help much appreciated.

  11. Hi,

I’d love to use this add-on but Thunderbird 19 reports that the latest version 3.13 is not compatible.
Is there a way to overcome this?

    Thank you. Peter

  12. Emre Erenoglu says:

I just installed latest build on my 32bit linux box to compare it to davmail. Indeed, it works good, however, uses roughly the same amount of memory as follows:
In my case, Thunderbird uses ~150mb when configured with Davmail for calendar with offline cache. Davmail itself uses ~90mb memory, but I could theoretically run it just when I need a calendar update, otherwise, Thunderbird would remain with 150mb with its offline calendar cache.
    Total Thunderbird+Davmail = 240mb.

Thunderbird uses ~242mb when configured with your add-on with exchange-cache enabled.

Wouldn’t it be possible to optimize this a bit further? I mean Thunderbird is somehow managing this calendar within 150mb with cached mode enabled. So if we exclude the “refresing/syncing calendar code”, shouldn’t we fit also around similar memory levels?

Otherwise, memory is not that expensive these days, I don’t really mind TB using ~250mb as it’s my primary app at work, but still I hope there is some way.

Many thanks for bringing this superb add-on, it’s a real need in business life if you’d like to use linux.

    • admin says:

Memory reduction is on the list. But not for now. Currently it stores all the XML data which is exchanged between the client and the exchange server in memory.

  13. Tb 17.0.5, plugin 3.2.0-Beta14

When the plugin is enabled the master password asked for twice. Is this expected behaviour?

  14. Nuno says:

    not compatible with firefox 20.0_!!!_

  15. Emre Erenoglu says:

I’m a heavy calendar user. Some of the appointments in my calendar can’t be dismissed. I can only dismiss them from the outlook web app or Outlook itself. Is this a known issue?

    • admin says:

Yes it is. It should be fixed in version 3.2.0-Beta30. Please try. When not fixed please file a bug report.

  16. Emre Erenoglu says:

    Hi,
I’m testing the contacts & GAL function. However, it returns a comma between name & surname and Thunderbird interprets this comma as address separation and does not let me send the mail.
    Example:
This returns from GAL: ERENOGLU, EMRE and mail can’t be sent.
    It shall be either
    like this: ERENOGLU EMRE
    or like this “ERENOGLU, EMRE”

  17. Emre Erenoglu says:

    Done. Bug 309.

  18. Amin says:

I updated to beta-44 today. The invitation buttons are back. Good news 🙂
However, I still have invitations in my mailbox which were accepted using the previous betas. Instead of marking them as processed events, the threesome buttons still apprear and actually do nothing.

    • admin says:

The old versions added the invitation in a different way. Probably the add-on cannot match the one in an email to the one in the calendar only for new invitations.

  19. Emre Erenoglu says:

I reinstalled my Ubuntu today and of course re-installed both davmail and your plugin to re-compare.
What I observe is that with davmail and a Caldav calendar added to Thunderbird, when moving between Inbox tab and Calendar tab, there’s just merely a second delay and CPU utilization spikes to 26% on my core2duo and then calendar is visible.

However, when I use your add-on, let it download all calendar & settle, I can see that switching between Inbox & Calendar becomes a sluggish exercise. When I click Calendar tab, memory usage increases, CPU tops to 50% (ie 100% of a core) for 4 seconds, UI does not respond during this timeframe and then the calendar is shown and CPU & memory usage returns to normal. Going back to inbox is speedier but back to Calendar and the same CPU & memory spike occurs.

This is beta44. Is this a bug that I need to report further? Can this be due to Davmail not yet supporting caldav attachments while yours does? (do you cache all attachments in the mail to memory?)

    • admin says:

Attachments are not stored in memory. I have seen the same effect. It has to do with Lightning which does something to display the items in the calendar.
I do not know what time span of items is available in the memory cache but I can imagine it will be more for the Exchange add-on than for the caldav add-on.
I am still working on getting this a bit more improved.

      • Emre Erenoglu says:

Thanks for the comment. I don’t know how much caldav stores but it does show all my appointments. I do have a weekly recurring appointment going on for around 6 months. Let me know if there’s something I can help to test.

  20. Matt says:

I am trying to gather more information regarding an intermittent problem. I have turned on logging but… no timestamps! I can’t tell what is significant in a timeline. Please timestamp all event records in logs, it is important. There are plenty of guidelines on what consitutes a well formed event record.

  21. Scott Zupek says:

    Thunderbird 17.0.8 –
    Exchange EWS Provider 3.2.0-46beta

Problem: Multiple Exchange accounts only show 1 database
Example: I have a company mail box (MAIL1) and company support box (MAIL2)
If I add both accounts, which ever account I click on first (MAIL1 or MAIL2) upon opening, will display the exact same INBOX/Subfolders per account.

    Datalocations:
    MAIL1: /home/user/.thunderbird/h3bgosv3.default/ExQuilla/mail.company.com
    MAIL2: /home/user/.thunderbird/h3bgosv3.default/ExQuilla/mail.company-1.com

If I open Thunderbird and go to MAIL2 first, all contents of MAIL2 will be listed under the MAIL1 mailbox. If I open MAIL1 first, all contents of MAIL1 will be listed under the MAIL2 mailbox. Both accounts are setup to sync all folders. I have tried with that option off as well.

    Hello,

I install tle latest beta (Exchange EWS provider 3.2.0-Beta46) and:
    -connexion OK,
-Create event OK (show on Office365),
-View all event on Thunderbird (24.0) FALSE …

    Have you solution ?

    Thank’s

  23. Georg says:

Thank you for all your efforts.
I updated to beta48 but it locked my existing Exchange calendar and does not update.
When creating a new calendar it showed “HTTP Server error 500: Internal server error” and “Code -19”. Re-installed beta46 and it is working fine.

  24. Georg says:

I installed beta49. Compared to beta48 the autodiscovery function is working again but the calendar is still in read-only mode and does not fetch any information from exchange. Go back to beta46 again.

  25. Sander says:

I have the same problem as Georg, in beta 48 and 49 I get “HTTP Server error 500: Internal server error” and “Code -19″

  26. Scott says:

Thanks for all your work on this plug-in!

For recurring events, when I attempt to dismiss the reminder in Thunderbird, I get an error “An error occurred when writing to the calendar XXX! Error code: MODIFICATION_FAILED.” I see the following in Thunderbird error console:

[JavaScript Warning: “There has been an error reading data for calendar: XXX. Error code: 0x80004005. Description: ID for modifyItem item is null”]

Do you know what causes this or how to get rid of it? No problems when using Outlook as the client.

This is not a regression in build 51. I have seen it for a while. But it is still happening in the latest build.

    Thanks.

  27. Patrick says:

Version 3.2.0 beta 51 crashed my TB. During startup, the TB password windows appears with nothing inside and hang up. Had to start in safe mode and disable this addon to be able to start.
Was working fine until this update.

  28. Michael Reilly says:

The latest (build 62) does not show The description associated with an invite. Right clicking on the event brings up a box. I select open and the General and Attendees sections are OK. But the Description is solid white with no text. This worked fine in Build 56 for the same event. I did not try build 61.

  34. Rod Sheaff says:

First, many thanks for the 3.2.0 betas – big improvement on 3.0.0. I can now have a diary on my University’s server!

My query – which I see was reported in some earlier discussions – is that when I connect I get a ‘1 running and 1 queued job’ message. If left long enough this increases to ‘1 running and 1400 queued jobs’ etc. and the diary gets slow. The same happens both on my PC (Linux: kubuntu 14.04, TB24.4, exchangecalendar Beta 77) and on my laptop (Ubuntu 14.04, TB24.4, exchangecalendar Beta 77). Is this the remaining but in the beta?

I can send a full log-file if that helps. I don’t understand most of its contents but here is a snippet that seems to repeat itself:
