Welcome on the website with the only add-on for Thunderbird and Seamonkey which will add access to you Exchange calendars, contacts and Global Address List (GAL). It is an add-on for the Lightning Calendering Add-on and will allow you to communicate with an Exchange 2007, 2010 and 2013 server using the Exchange Web Service (EWS) interface.You can access any Calendar, Task or Contacts folder on the EWS server in an easy way. And also manage your “Out of Office” settings.
Requirements:
- Version 3.2.x for Thunderbird 12 up to 27 (tested up to and with 27).
- Version 3.1.x for Thunderbird 6 up to 17 (tested up to and with 17).
- Version 3.0.x for Thunderbird 6 up to 17 (tested up to and with 17).
- Version 2.x.x for Thunderbird 6 up to 14 (tested up to and with 14).
- Seamonkey 2.6.1 – 2.20.

Please try this version and turn on offline cache (below calendar settings). When you already use offline cache please turn it first off for the calendar. Restart TB and then turn it on again. It should stay in sync now.

What can it do:
- Support Exchange server 2007, 2010 and 2013 (Office365).
- Sync Calendar, Task/Todo and Contact items from an EWS (Exchange) server. Syncing is done on a user settable poll interval. It will track changes on the server and update the local memory cache.
- Create, modify and delete calendar events and task/todo items. They will get synced immediately with the EWS server.
- Contacts are currently read-only.
- Search the Global Address List (GAL).
- Use contacts and GAL in address auto completion.
- During creation of a new calendar you can use the Exchange Autodiscover functionality (when enabled on the Exchange server) to find the right server and mailbox settings. Selecting the right folder is easy with the build-in folder browser.
- You can access any Calendar, Task or Contacts folder on your EWS server as long as you have the right primarySMTP or alias email address and enough permissions for the used user.
- Let it poll your inbox for meeting invitation request or cancellations. They will show up in your calendar.
- Manage how meeting invitations or cancellations are automatically handled (responded to).
- Add as many calendar objects as you wish and Lightning will allow.
- Manage “Out of Office”settings for each calendar mailbox.
- Import ICS files.
- Export to ICS files. (Experimental: new since 1.8.0a4 not a full calendar yet only local memory cache)
- Manage and view attachments.
- Edit event/todo description with rich-text. Colours, fonts, links, etc…
- User availability (Free/Busy) information.
- Currently in Dutch (Nederlands), English, French (Français) (Thanks to Dominique Fillon) , Swedish, Japanese and German (Deutsch) (Thanks to Christian A. Meyer) localizations. When you would like to make a translation for your language please let me know .
- Can work with Basic, Negotiate and Kerberos authentication. Please see this page for an explanation. No NTLMv1 or NTLMv2 on Linux.
Known issues:
- When Thunderbird is started or a new Calendar is added it can take some time to load and cache the items from the EWS server. Be patient it will all be loaded. After it is loaded it is fast because it will work with an local temporary memorycache.
- Because of the previous slowness. When you try to change, add or delete an item during loading this change might take some time to be synced to the EWS server.
- And those mentioned in the bugzilla.
- It is not possible to accept or decline assigned tasks. Microsoft does not provide the necessary API calls for this. Even OWA cannot do this. Only outlook.

Which version are you using. 1.7.6 has a problem which is fixed today in version 1.7.7a1.
Latest version (1.7.10a2) as provided by the link on add-on home page complains: the add-on is not compatible with Firefox 8.0 (FF8.0 64-bit, Mozilla binary distribution under 64-bit Fedora 12).
Hm,, i seem to have made a mistake here: it seems I tried to install to Firefox (for some reason I didn’t see that save as dialog (which would have been a reminder of the wrong program). 🙁 Anyway, sorry.

Because the add-on has not been tested and designed to work with Office 365 but with Exchange 2007 and 2010.

when I connect to a calendar of one of my colleagues
– If he gimme full access from OWA , I see all details meeting and it work properly.
– If he gimme just free/busy from OWA I cannot access to minimal infos. (calendar totally blank);
Any possibility to access just to free/busy in external/colleague calendars?

The Free/Busy information will onyl show if the other is free or busy no further details. For that you need more privileges. The Free/Busy information is used when you create a new meetig request in your own calendar and intvite other people on the same exchange server. It will only help in finding a free slot.
Seems to work great, but my tasks do not show up. Not a major show stopper, just something to nag about :-). Is there anything I may need to tweak to get the tasks to show?

I take back what I wrote about tasks not displaying. I hadn’t read the FAQ properly and pointed my calendar to the wrong root folder. My bad entirely. So this is now officially a totally great and awesome plugin.

Doesn’t work for me. Fill in all the fields, click the “check” button, and it disables with no other fields to fill in below. Next> button is disabled as well.
Could you turn on debugging as described here Add-on Debugging and if it is a bug create a bug report.

The plugin looks promising; however, when I try to sync my calendar I get a -101 error. I used the Autodiscovery function to configure the plugin. I can read my mail just fine but it won’t let me set the Folderbase to my Calendar folder, it just sets it to the Public folders. Is there any way of fixing this?
Also when I try to save a new entry I get a similar error message in the status bar. I also get the following error messages in the console:
– Could not find jar manifest entry ‘chrome/en-GB.manifest’. Which probably explains the blank dialog that appears whenever I have an error getting my calendar events. I use “en-US” for my locale.

Which version are you using? Latest development version can be downloaded from the website.
Did you enter something in the “Mailbox” field. If you leave it empty then you can only use and browse public folders.
Autodiscovery does not always work. This depends on if your provider made it available and if they used the default values for it.
Currently it supports the following locales “nl”, “en-US” and “fr-FR”. As you mention it is looking for “en-GB”. Are you sure you are using “en-US”. You can test this by starting thunderbird from the command line with the “-UILocale en-US” option (e.g.: thunderbird -UILocale en-US)

Another problem. Reminders don’t stay dismissed. I have reminders from weeks back I have dismissed numerous times. Every time I start TB, they pop up again.

This makes me wonder if the configuration that I’m using is wrong.
I’m not sure how this web service works, and whether or not it requires a password and not just a userid. The rest of the console is the actual SOAP envelope and the following error message:

Today j have updated thunderbird to 10.0 and lighting to 1.2 … and when this add on try to connect to exchange there is an error. This is evident when j create a new exchange calendar :

How are you people downloading this? Every time I click on the link, it tries to install it in Firefox.
Right click on the link and select “save as” or “save link as”. It normally would save it as a file.
When I right-click and select “Save link as…” it tries to save it as “download.php”.
I have the problem that no invitation emails are sent for events in an exchange calendar, might this be a problem of the plugin? For my other calendars emails are sent out.
Also, is there a way to show how created a certain event? We are using a shared calendar at work and that would be very helpful.
I’m using Mozilla 9.0.1 and the 1.7.12 version of the plugin.
For the emails not send part. Is the calendar a calendar below the public folders? If so it is currently not possible to send out invitation requests. I’m working on this.
I will put this in the feature request list. This information is available but Thunderbird/Lightning currently has no fields to show this info. I will have to create them.

For which field to you mean the “firstname.lastname” AD format? Is it the mailbox field or the username. For the username it is available in version 1.7.12. For the mailbox it tries to detect the primarySMTP which belongs to the specified alias.

I’m not sure if this is a plugin or Exchange issue:
When i accept an incoming meeting request and allow it to be placed in my exchange calender, the exchange server sees this as a new meeting with myself as the organizer, and starts sending out invitations to the other invitees. (instead of sending a accept message to the organizer)
How can this behaviour be avoided, or what am i doing wrong?
How are you accepting the meetin request? Through the iTIP buttons on the messageview (email) or in the calendarview through the popup menu? Which version of the add-on are you using?

This problem was allready reported as a bug and has been fixed in the latest development version, 1.7.13ax.
I had 2 problems with v. 1.7.12. One was this one, that if I tried to set up a repeating task to an Exchange 2010 server from Lightning, it would fail as above. The second was that repeating tasks set up through the Outlook Web App (OWA) would show up in Lightning, but when I marked a repeating task complete, the new due date was 4-5 hours ahead of schedule which made it the evening before it should be due. (E.g. “every Monday at 12:00 AM” would reset to the next Sunday at 7-8 PM.)
I just upgraded to v. 1.7.13 and the first problem seems to be fixed, but the second remains. I set up a test task using Lightning for every Monday at 12:00 AM starting 3/5/12. It went to the Exchange 2010 server and ended up set at Sunday 3/4/12 7:00 PM even though the instructions still say “Occurs every Monday…”. I marked the first occurrence complete and now the next occurrence is 3/11/12 8 PM. I suspect the 7:00 vs. 8:00 PM when it should be the following midnight might be a clue to the problem: that’s our offset from Greenwich Mean Time, before and after Daylight Savings Time.
I hope this can be fixed soon. The functionality is great otherwise.
Worked it out! (Thanks to the FAQ) Changed the authentication method to NTLM in Server Settings. Found a bug with Reminders and will post that shortly. Thanks! 🙂

I just wanted to let you know that while using the add-on your bandwidth usage may go up. My bandwidth increased over a Gb a day. I don’t think it’s a problem with the add-on itself but the amount of data being transfered.
I’ve had to stop using it.

Did you increase the polling intervals on the EWS settings page per calendar. By default they are every 3 seconds for the calendar and every 10 seconds for the inbox. Increase them and you bandwith usage should drop.

As a suggestion, change the defaults to something reasonable…maybe a few minutes instead of seconds.

First off coming from the old Microsoft Exchange provider for Lightning this is definitly an improvement.
However I am having some issues with Free/busy information. When accessing a calendar that I am allowed to view Free/Busy information for (this works through Outlook and Outlook Web Access just fine) I get a blank calendar.
Do any special permissions need to be set on the calendar to view Free/Busy? We use the “Default” permission to allow people to view Free/Busy once authenticated.
To see Free/Busy information you need to type in the full email address of the person you are inviting. Only then it will show the info if you have the right permissions.
Because the add-on has not yet access to the contacts/addresslist from exchange it cannot autofill the name while typing. So you have to enter the full email addres yourself.
Hope this answers your question. It should work the same way as the old Exchange provider.
Access to contacts/addresslist is on the todo list.

I have typed in the full email of a user whose calendar I am allowed to view Free/busy. It succesfully adds it aswell but the calendar is empty e.g. not showing free/busy.

The addon works fine, I can see my Exchange Calender and make updates! I feel a bit sheepish, though, because I can’t figure out how to see an appointment’s details before accepting it. When I receive a meeting request as an email, all I see is an empty mail body and the three buttons for accepting, denying or saying “maybe”. What am I doing wrong?
I can use “view page source” to see the raw data and figure out the time and date that I’ve been invited to, but there must be better way, somehow.
In the email view the Lightning add-on should display the invitation details. When you do not see them I do not know what is wrong. Ask on the Lightning chatgroup.
In the calendar settings in OWA you can also specify to add new invitations to your calendar on receiving (done by the Exchange server). From there they will be visible and you are able to acknowledge them.
In the latest version of this, I cannot see any new event invitations I accept from others. I can create my own events and they show up in both lightning and Outlook. What am I doing wrong?
How do you accept them? Do you get any errors? Please describe.
Hey I was an avid Exchange Provider Plugin, and things worked kinda ok, now when I moved to this plugin, nothing works. I’m on Ubuntu 11.10, Thunderbird 11 and Lightning 1.3
The issue is that I configure my account correctly, and I don’t get any error, but I just simply don’t see anything (even after several hours), what can I do to see what’s going on?

Awesome addon, works fine on my Windoze 7 machine.
However on my linux box it does not because of an authentication failure. It took a bit of digging around with various wget invocations to find out that ntlm authentication from any of my linux clients to the IIS 7 servers of my university is broken.
On the other hand basic authentication works just fine. So is there a way to force the authentication method?

I am using the latest development version.
I am also having the same problem with the EWS plugin for Gnome Evolution. It only worked after I hacked it to force basic auth.
So basically this is not a bug in your addon – consider it more like a feature request to mitigate systems broken in other ways.

Very nice tool. I was even able to acces to access other persons released calenders, but there is one problem: Exchange publish private entries completly together with a private flag – so the entry is displayed with all details …

Not completly. _Even_ if you set an appointment to private in Exchange, your addon list the appointment in full details. Afaik Exchange sends for private entries all datas plus an private flag, so the client is responsible for the “private” handling.

To my surprise you did not publish my comment. So I just made another test today and it shows that with your tool you CAN MODIFY even Appointments marked as private if you have Free/Busy (AvailabilitOnly) set on the standard user. THIS IS as security and PRIVACY issue that should be addressed either by Microsoft on the EWS side or on your code’s side.
May I ask again: how could we intercept your EWS-Requests on our IIS so as to drop them or to filter out any private appointments before returning the data to your client?

As you mention the private flag is only a flag in exchange. The exchange server will always send all details of the calendar event even when the private flag is turned on. Probably the oulook and webmail clients of Microsoft are programmed to hide the data to the user but in the background they do receive it.
I had more discussions about this. Currently there is one problem where the add-on is not able to detect if the calendar event is from the end user it self or that you are some one else who may view the calendar but we should hide private data from. Once I can determine this difference the add-on can hide at the right moment.
Please do keep in memory that the data is still exchanged between the client and the servers as the server does send the data.
Thanks a lot. There seems to be a Microsoft EWS client that confirms all I have seen in my tests, and all you say above. So it should definitively be Microsoft who adjusts/fixes its EWS interface.

Yes the plan is there. We hope to have this functionality in about three weeks.
1.8.18 is completely broken with TBird 10.0.4 running under RHEL6 and Exchange 2010. Autodiscovery gives an XML error and a permission denied error. And I keep getting repeatedly prompted for the password, again and again and again.
1.8.11 works, so it would be interesting to try 1.8.12 – 1.8.17 to see where things broke.

The read-write option for contacts is planned for the future.
There appears to be an issue with 1.8.19. I updated frp, 1.8.5 and after the update message filters were no longer working (greyed out) I removed 1.8.19 and re installed 1.8.5 and filters worked again.
The problem with the grayed out filter options has been solved in latest development version 2.0.6
I don’t see a possibility to access shared calenders of team mates which I’ve subscribed in outlook. Am I right?

What modifications were made in dev versions 2.0.6 and 2.0.7?
A bug fix where updates to a meeting were not send to the invited persons.
Can you guys take a look at bug 144? It really is a blocker for anyone that has repeating meetings without end dates that they’ve been invited to. The jobs just keep spinning and spinning and the network traffic is continuous to the point I’m worried that the MS Exchange Server guys are going to get upset.

Hey there, I am having an issue with calendar invites to invents sent from my office 365 account. Lightning does not recognize them as calendar events and I have to open a browser to accept them, via the 365 web client. Once it is accepted, it will not sync to lightning. Anyone else having this issue?

I’ve got a problem with invitations.
I’ve accepted an invitation, and in the second dialog changed to tentative.
Now the invitation stays in the taskbar forever.
How can I get rid of this? I already deleted the invitation-email from my mailfolders.
Hi, thanks for a great plugin, without it I would be forced to use Outlook! Just wondering the progress on making this work with Thunderbird 15+ ?
I have a fix but because the change in 15 hits a lot of code in the add-on it will take some time.
And I can only work on it in my spare/free time.
It might take some weeks.

I just installed it and the calander works fine (TB 14, You Addon v. 2.2, MS Exch. 2010). My problem are the tasks. It is not possible to create a new task and the tasks on the server aren´t displaied in lightning. Could you please help me.
